Congratulations on your engagement! I am sure lots of work is happening now for you to have the wedding of your dreams. Whether it is simple or complicated, local or a destination wedding, much prep work has to occur for your ultimately amazing day. The bride and groom stand before the minister to ask God to bless their union. Say their vows before friends and loved ones. Share the first kiss as husband and wife. Happy sigh. But then what? This scene reminds me of a quote I read.

“Loved the wedding. Now invite Me to the marriage.”

Many couples spend more time and money planning their weddings than preparing for their marriages. I applaud you for taking the time to invest in a healthy, God honoring marriage. Having a healthy marriage creates a solid foundation for your family legacy. You care deeply about your relationship to God and one another. You are proactive in discovering tools to continue the precious connection you already share with one another.

Premarital counseling affords a couple the opportunity to learn effective communication skills, strengthen connection and discover possible unknown expectations not recognized prior to the premarital work. It’s the hidden differences and lack of communication skills which create great conflict in many couples. Premarital counseling provides an opportunity to take a look at possible pitfalls of the future and address them before they become a problem.

I want to help you start out on the right foot and avoid pitfalls on the road ahead. Love for a lifetime is not an impossibility with God’s blueprints for relationships. A few of the issues I cover in premarital counseling are healthy communication, conflict resolution, finances, sex as God meant it to be, expectations in marriage and understanding your unique personalities. Engaged couples find premarital counseling enlightening and generally enjoyable!

How Does Premarital Counseling Work?

I use the SYMBIS premarital assessment. It’s a very convenient process where each couple completes an individual assessment. Each person independently answers 300 questions in about 30 minutes. After the assessments are completed by both individuals, we meet and the couple is given a customized report outlining the assessment results. We explore the strength and growth areas of your relationship and provide effective tools to use throughout your marriage. Sessions are usually 6-8 weeks.

I would love the opportunity to join you in preparing for your marriage. Call (619) 500-4653.
